MX-4565 is a novel, non-feminizing estrogen analogue developed by MIGENIX (formerly Micrologix Biotech) for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. As a small molecule neuroprotective agent, it aims to prevent the death of dopaminergic neurons, a hallmark of Parkinson's pathology. Preclinical studies in rodent models have demonstrated its ability to provide complete protection of nerve cells against toxins. A key feature of MX-4565 is its non-feminizing profile at therapeutic doses, which distinguishes it from traditional estrogen therapies and potentially allows for its use in male patients without systemic hormonal side effects. Although it showed promising pharmacokinetics and efficacy in animal models, development appears to have ceased following corporate restructuring and the eventual dissolution of MIGENIX.
