Overview

MYC RNA refers to the messenger RNA (mRNA) transcript of the MYC proto-oncogene, a master regulator gene that encodes a transcription factor involved in cell proliferation, growth, apoptosis, and metabolism. The MYC family includes c-myc (MYC), l-myc (MYCL), and n-myc (MYCN). In cancer biology, overexpression or dysregulation of MYC is implicated in many malignancies including Burkitt lymphoma and various solid tumors. Because the Myc protein has been considered "undruggable" by traditional small molecule approaches due to its lack of suitable binding pockets[1][5][9], recent drug discovery efforts have focused on targeting the MYC mRNA itself using modalities such as small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), antisense oligonucleotides, or small molecules that bind to structured regions of the mRNA to inhibit translation or promote degradation[5][6][8][9]. These approaches aim to reduce production of Myc protein and thereby suppress tumor growth.
