Overview
Mycapssa is an oral, delayed-release capsule formulation of the synthetic somatostatin analog octreotide. It is indicated for the long-term maintenance treatment of acromegaly in patients who have responded to and tolerated prior treatment with injectable somatostatin analogs such as octreotide or lanreotide. Octreotide acts by mimicking natural somatostatin to inhibit the secretion of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), thereby controlling symptoms and biochemical markers associated with acromegaly. Mycapssa represents the first approved oral formulation of a somatostatin analog for this indication[2][4][9]. The drug has also received orphan drug designation for carcinoid syndrome[5].
