EM (Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigen) is an investigational recombinant protein-based diagnostic skin-test antigen developed by Anbozhi Lian (Suzhou) Biotechnology. It is designed for the auxiliary diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) and the detection of latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Administered via intradermal injection, the antigen triggers a delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response in individuals whose immune systems have been sensitized to M. tuberculosis. This response, typically measured by skin induration, allows for the identification of infected individuals. As a Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigen-based skin test (TBST), EM aims to provide higher specificity than the traditional tuberculin skin test (TST) by utilizing specific antigens that do not cross-react with the BCG vaccine. It is currently in Phase IIa clinical development in China.
