This is a **combination therapy** composed of heat-killed Mycobacterium w (also known as Mycobacterium indicus pranii or MIP), paclitaxel, and cisplatin. Mycobacterium w acts as an immunomodulator with immune-potentiating properties, paclitaxel is a microtubule-stabilizing agent that inhibits cell division, and cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic that induces DNA crosslinking, leading to apoptosis. The combination—typically in conjunction with radiotherapy—aims to enhance anti-cancer activity through synergistic cytotoxic effects, involving both intrinsic apoptosis (e.g., caspase-9, Apaf-1 expression) and inactivation of the nuclear factor kappa B pathway, while also boosting anti-tumor CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses[1][3][5]. This regimen is being investigated in cancer, notably cervical and head-and-neck cancers, for its potential to increase efficacy and reduce dose-related toxicities[5].
