Mycolyse is an enzyme-based biologic therapeutic being developed by ZymIQ Biopharma for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB), nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung infections, and drug-resistant mycobacterial infections. Derived from bacteriophages, the therapeutic consists of engineered enzymes designed to target and degrade the complex cell wall structures characteristic of mycobacteria. This mechanism of action aims to directly kill the bacteria or weaken their structural integrity, potentially enhancing the efficacy of co-administered antibiotics. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that Mycolyse can achieve faster bacterial clearance compared to standard treatments like Rifampicin and shows significant synergistic potential in combination therapies.
