Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Immuphen is an immunosuppressant drug developed by Austrak. It is available in formulations containing mycophenolate mofetil (Immuphen 500) or mycophenolate sodium (Immuphen-S 180 and Immuphen-S 360). Mycophenolate is a prodrug of mycophenolic acid, which acts as a potent, selective, and reversible inhibitor of inosine-5'-monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH). By inhibiting IMPDH, mycophenolate blocks the de novo synthesis of guanosine nucleotides, which is essential for the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. Immuphen is primarily used in nephrology and rheumatology/orthopedics, particularly for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in patients receiving kidney transplants and for the treatment of autoimmune conditions such as lupus nephritis.
