Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mykoderm is a brand of antifungal medications developed and manufactured by Engelhard Pharma, primarily available in the German market. The Mykoderm product line encompasses several distinct formulations that utilize either **nystatin** or **miconazole** as the active pharmaceutical ingredient to treat various fungal infections. Mykoderm Heilsalbe (Healing Ointment) contains nystatin and is specifically indicated for yeast infections of the skin, such as diaper dermatitis (diaper rash) and candidiasis in skin folds. Nystatin works by binding to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, creating pores that lead to the leakage of intracellular components and cell death. Other products in the line, such as Mykoderm Mund-Gel and Mykoderm Miconazolcreme, contain miconazole, an imidazole antifungal. Miconazole inhibits the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, which is essential for the biosynthesis of ergosterol; its inhibition disrupts the integrity of the fungal cell membrane and inhibits growth. These miconazole-based products are typically used for oral thrush and various dermatomycoses.
