MYM-V101 is a second-generation, virosome-based preventative HIV-1 infection vaccine developed by Mymetics Corporation and Texas Biomedical Research Institute. It is based on an engineered form of the HIV surface glycoprotein gp41, specifically utilizing lipidated P1 peptides derived from gp41. The primary mechanism of action is immunostimulation, aiming to induce systemic and mucosal antibodies (IgG and IgA) against conserved motifs in gp41 to inhibit early mucosal entry of HIV-1. Clinical studies have shown that MYM-V101 is safe and well-tolerated when administered intramuscularly or intranasally, eliciting both serum and mucosal antibody responses with activity against transcytosis of HIV at mucosal surfaces[1][2][6][8].
