Myocare

Myocare (DWP DE-2401) is a low-dose atropine sulfate (0.01%) ophthalmic solution developed by Daewoo Pharma for the management of pediatric myopia. It is specifically indicated to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children by inhibiting the axial elongation of the eye. Atropine acts as a non-selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. While its exact mechanism in myopia control is not fully elucidated, it is believed to involve the modulation of eye growth through receptors located in the retina, choroid, or sclera, rather than through its traditional cycloplegic effects. The 0.01% concentration is utilized to provide therapeutic efficacy in myopia control while significantly reducing the incidence of side effects such as photophobia and blurred near vision compared to higher concentrations.
