Myofibrillogenesis inducing RNA (minRNA) is a 167-nucleotide non-coding RNA molecule that plays a pivotal role in cardiac development and regeneration. Originally discovered in avian embryos, minRNA is essential for the commitment of precardiac mesoderm to the cardiomyocyte lineage and the subsequent organization of the contractile apparatus. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of cardiac-specific structural proteins, such as cardiac troponin T (cTnT) and myosin heavy chain (MHC), by modulating the transcriptional activity of their respective gene promoters. Developed primarily within academic settings like SUNY Downstate Medical Center, minRNA is being investigated as a potential regenerative therapy for heart failure and myocardial infarction, aiming to restore functional muscle tissue in damaged hearts.
