MYOSEAL is a prophylactic combination product consisting of silver microparticles and a fibrin tissue sealant (TISSEEL), designed to prevent incisional hernias following abdominal surgery. Developed by Vitruvian Medical Devices and surgeon Hobart Harris, the product is applied topically to the closed abdominal muscle incision during surgery. The silver microparticles act by slowly disintegrating and inducing a local inflammatory response, which promotes fibrosis and strengthens the wound healing process at the myofascial incision site. Preclinical studies have shown a significant reduction in hernia incidence, and the product is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy in enhancing collagen formation and preventing hernia formation.
