Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Myramistin (commonly known as Miramistin) is a synthetic, broad-spectrum topical antiseptic and cationic surfactant originally developed in the Soviet Union. Chemically classified as a quaternary ammonium compound, myramistin acts by directly interacting with and disrupting microbial cell membranes, leading to cytolysis and cell death. It exhibits robust antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (including multidrug-resistant hospital strains), as well as various fungi and complex viruses. Myramistin is used topically for the treatment and prophylaxis of infectious and inflammatory conditions, including superficial pyoderma, wound infections, otorhinolaryngological (ENT) infections, and mucosal or oral infections. It is developed and manufactured by Infamed and has been evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by Valenta Pharm.
