Overview

Myristamidopropyl dimethylamine (MAPD) is an antimicrobial agent and biocide commonly used in multipurpose contact lens disinfecting solutions. It functions by inducing cell death, likely through necrosis, in a broad spectrum of microorganisms. These include bacteria such as *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Staphylococcus epidermidis*, *Serratia marcescens*, *Klebsiella pneumoniae*, *Achromobacter xylosoxidans*, *Delftia acidovorans*, and *Stenotrophomonas maltophilia*, as well as fungi like *Candida albicans* and *Fusarium* strains, and protozoa such as *Acanthamoeba castellanii*. It is frequently co-formulated with other biocides like polyquaternium-1 to enhance its disinfection efficacy in contact lens care products.
