Myrtecaine is a local anesthetic of the ester series used primarily in topical formulations for the relief of muscle strains, tendinitis or ligament sprains, and joint pain. It acts as a surface anesthetic by blocking sodium channels in nerve cells to prevent the initiation and transmission of nerve impulses. This results in localized numbness and pain relief. Myrtecaine is often combined with diethylamine salicylate (as in Algesal or Algésal Suractivé) to enhance analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by facilitating deeper penetration of the co-administered agent. Additionally, it exhibits muscle relaxant properties[1][2][3][4][6].
