Myrtle oil is an essential oil extracted from the leaves and berries of *Myrtus communis* L., containing bioactive small molecules such as 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), α-pinene, and limonene. It is being investigated by the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, particularly in pediatric patients. The oil exhibits significant anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and mucolytic properties. Its therapeutic mechanism in allergic rhinitis involves the downregulation of Th2-type inflammatory cytokines, such as Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-5 (IL-5), and the inhibition of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways like NF-κB. These actions lead to a reduction in nasal mucosal edema and eosinophil infiltration, thereby alleviating symptoms such as nasal congestion and rhinorrhea.
