Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mythocondro is a non-animal, fermentation-derived chondroitin sulfate developed by Gnosis by Lesaffre. It is produced through a patented process using a specific strain of *Escherichia coli* (O5:K4:H4), resulting in a product that is predominantly monosulfated at the 6-carbon position (C6S) with a molecular weight between 1000 and 5000 daltons. Unlike traditional chondroitin sulfate sourced from bovine, porcine, or avian cartilage, Mythocondro is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets. It has been studied, notably by the Azienda di Servizi alla Persona di Pavia, for its efficacy in reducing pain and improving joint function in overweight individuals with moderate knee osteoarthritis. It functions as a symptomatic slow-acting drug for osteoarthritis (SYSADOA), targeting joint inflammation and cartilage degradation pathways.
