MYXV-Tred is a recombinant oncolytic myxoma virus (MYXV) engineered to express a red fluorescent protein (tdTomato, referred to as Tred). Myxoma virus is a leporipoxvirus that is non-pathogenic to humans but exhibits natural tropism for many types of human cancer cells due to their impaired interferon signaling and activated AKT pathways. MYXV-Tred serves as a research tool and a therapeutic candidate in preclinical oncology studies. In immunocompetent mouse models of B16F10 melanoma, intratumoral administration of MYXV-Tred has been shown to increase median survival by inducing direct viral oncolysis and stimulating a robust innate immune response, specifically characterized by the recruitment of neutrophils to the tumor microenvironment. It is often used as a control or base construct for more complex recombinant viruses, such as those expressing cytokines like IL-15.
