MZ-5-156 is a synthetic peptide **antagonist of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH)**. Its primary mechanism is inhibition of GHRH signaling, which in turn suppresses the production and expression of insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II), implicated in the progression of various tumors including prostate and colon carcinomas. MZ-5-156 has been shown to reduce tumor growth and IGF-II expression in both in vitro and in vivo models, including DU-145 human androgen-independent prostate cancer, HT-29 human colon cancer, and multiple cell lines. In animal studies, MZ-5-156 improved survival, cognitive function, and reduced tumor incidence. It has not been approved for clinical use and has primarily been evaluated in preclinical and early-stage (non-human) studies[2][3][4][7][9].
