MZE782 is an oral small molecule drug in development by Maze Therapeutics. It targets the solute transporter SLC6A19 and is designed to mimic the kidney-protective effects of certain SLC6A19 genetic variants. The drug aims to be a first-in-class treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly for patients who have inadequate responses to currently available therapies, as well as for phenylketonuria (PKU), an inherited metabolic disorder. MZE782 may also serve as a complementary therapy alongside existing CKD treatments or as an alternative for those not responding adequately to current regimens. As of September 2024, it entered Phase 1 clinical trials in healthy volunteers, with plans for Phase 2 trials in both CKD and PKU based on initial results[1][3][5][6].
