Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Néo-Décongestine (also marketed as Néo-Décongestine hot & cold) is a topical paste formulation containing salicylic acid as its active ingredient, along with kaolin, methyl salicylate, glycerol, eucalyptus oil, and peppermint oil. Developed by Melisana Healthcare (part of the Klosterfrau Healthcare Group) and previously by Sanopharm, it is used as a hot or cold compress (cataplasm) for the external treatment of muscle and joint rheumatism, bruises, sprains, bursitis, tendinitis, and sore throats associated with colds. Salicylic acid acts as a weak inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), reducing the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins to alleviate pain and inflammation locally.
