Overview

N-(4-aminobutyl)-4-sulfamoylbenzamide is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the benzamide sulfonamides. It features a sulfonamide group attached to a benzene ring and an aminobutyl side chain. This compound is part of a class of molecules known as benzamide-4-sulfonamides, which have been studied primarily as potent inhibitors of the metalloenzyme carbonic anhydrase (CA), particularly human isoforms hCA II, VII, and IX. These enzymes are involved in physiological processes such as intraocular pressure regulation and acid-base balance. The compound has demonstrated low nanomolar or subnanomolar inhibitory activity against these CA isoforms *in vitro*, suggesting potential utility for conditions like glaucoma or other diseases where carbonic anhydrase inhibition is beneficial[6]. Its development status remains experimental.
