Overview

N-0924 is the (+)-enantiomer of rotigotine (N-0923), a non-ergoline dopamine agonist. While its levorotatory counterpart, rotigotine, is a potent agonist at dopamine D2 receptors used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, N-0924 is the pharmacologically inactive isomer. In preclinical studies involving 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) lesioned rats and MPTP-treated Macaca nemestrina monkeys, N-0924 failed to induce the therapeutic motor effects, such as contralateral turning behavior or improved limb usage, that are characteristic of dopamine receptor stimulation. Consequently, N-0924 is primarily utilized in pharmacological research as a negative control to demonstrate the stereospecificity of rotigotine's binding and biological activity.
