Overview

n-3-oxo-octanoyl-thiohomoserine lactone is a small molecule analog of the bacterial signaling molecule N-3-oxo-octanoyl-homoserine lactone (3-oxo-C8-HSL). Developed by OMM Scientific, it is designed to interact with the AI-1 (Autoinducer-1) quorum sensing pathway, a communication system used by bacteria to coordinate gene expression based on population density. By mimicking or competing with natural acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs), this thio-analog serves as a research tool to investigate quorum sensing mechanisms and explore potential anti-infective strategies that disrupt bacterial virulence. It is currently provided as a preclinical research reagent for the study of AI-1-type quorum sensing systems.
