Overview

N-acetyl-seryl-aspartyl-lysyl-proline amide (AcSDKP-NH2) is a synthetic tetrapeptide analogue of the endogenous peptide AcSDKP, developed by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris. It is designed as a non-radioactive diagnostic reference marker for the precise measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The molecule is modified at its C-terminal end by amidation, which renders it resistant to degradation by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), a major metabolic pathway for the natural peptide. AcSDKP-NH2 is freely filtered by the glomerulus and is neither secreted nor reabsorbed by the renal tubules, nor is it metabolized by the kidneys. These pharmacokinetic properties allow its renal clearance to serve as an accurate surrogate for GFR in both healthy individuals and patients with chronic kidney disease.
