Overview

N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) is a small molecule monosaccharide and amino sugar derivative of glucose being developed by Quantinosis.ai LLC for the treatment of COVID-19. It functions as an anti-inflammatory agent and immune modulator, specifically targeting the composition of the immunoglobulin G (IgG) glycome and influencing immune cell function. In clinical evaluations (NCT04706416), oral administration of NAG was associated with improved clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients, including reduced hospital stay duration and lower rates of ICU admission and mortality. NAG is a naturally occurring substance often used as a dietary supplement, but in this context, it is being investigated for its potential to mitigate the hyperinflammatory response associated with severe viral infections.
