Overview

N-Benzyl-4-Sulfamoyl-Benzamide is a small molecule belonging to the sulfonamide and benzamide chemical classes. It is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II (CA II), an enzyme involved in the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. By inhibiting CA II (EC 4.2.1.1), this compound can modulate physiological processes such as acid-base balance and fluid secretion. Sulfonamides are historically known for their antibacterial properties; however, N-Benzyl-4-Sulfamoyl-Benzamide's primary characterized activity is as a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor rather than as an antibiotic[1][3][5]. The compound has been studied primarily in biochemical and medicinal chemistry research settings.
