Drug intelligence / Profile preview
n-Butanol extract of lotus seeds (LBE) is a plant-derived preparation obtained by extracting the seeds of Nelumbo nucifera (lotus) with n-butanol. It has demonstrated anti-obesity effects in preclinical studies, including reduced lipid accumulation in adipocytes and weight loss in high-fat diet-fed mice. The mechanism involves activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), downregulation of lipogenesis-related genes (such as PPARγ, aP2, LPL, C/EBPα, FAS, SREBP-1c), and upregulation of lipolysis genes (adiponectin and PPARα). These actions result in antiadipogenic and antilipogenic activities. Additional reported pharmacological activities for various extracts from lotus seeds include antioxidant, antitumor, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular protective effects as well as potential benefits for memory improvement and immune regulation[1][2][3].
