N-Butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine (OH-BBN) is a synthetic nitrosamine and potent carcinogen widely used in experimental models, primarily for the induction of urinary bladder cancer in rodents[1][3][4]. The compound acts through alkylation of cellular DNA, leading to mutations and subsequent oncogenesis. OH-BBN is frequently employed to study carcinogenesis and test chemopreventive agents, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs[1]. It is recognized for inducing high-grade, invasive bladder cancers that closely mimic the human disease phenotype and progression[1][2][3]. The chemical is not indicated for human therapeutic use and is highly toxic, classified as a Category 1B carcinogen[2][3].
