N-chlorin e6 triglumine is a water-soluble salt form of chlorin e6, a second-generation photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (PDT). As a derivative of the natural porphyrin compound chlorin e6, it is designed to improve solubility and pharmacokinetics for clinical use. Upon activation by visible light (typically around 660 nm), N-chlorin e6 triglumine generates reactive oxygen species that induce cell death through apoptosis or necrosis. This mechanism underlies its application in treating tumors and inflammatory skin conditions. The drug has demonstrated anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory effects and is being investigated for use in moderate to severe acne as well as various cancers[1][2][3][9]. The addition of the "triglumine" (di-N-methylglucamine) moiety enhances its aqueous solubility compared to free chlorin e6[9].
