Overview

NT0502 (n-desethyloxybutynin) is a new chemical entity and a selective anticholinergic agent, developed as an oral, once- or twice-daily treatment to reduce chronic sialorrhea (excessive drooling) in patients with neurological and other disorders associated with excess saliva. NT0502 is the active N-desethyl metabolite of oxybutynin. It acts by selectively blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the salivary glands, reducing saliva secretion. Its more selective action is designed to potentially yield an improved tolerability profile and simplified dosing compared to non-selective anticholinergic agents currently used for this indication. NT0502 uses a micro-particle, modified-release oral formulation; as of early 2020, it was in Phase 1 studies evaluating pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability in healthy volunteers[1][3][5][7][9].
