N-Dramine Expectorant is an approved over-the-counter (OTC) combination expectorant and antihistamine liquid formulation developed and manufactured by National Pharmaceutical. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough and congestion associated with colds, allergies, or upper respiratory tract conditions. The formulation contains four active ingredients: diphenhydramine (a first-generation H1 histamine receptor antagonist with antihistamine and antitussive properties), ammonium chloride (an expectorant that increases respiratory tract secretions to loosen mucus), sodium citrate (a buffering agent and expectorant), and menthol (a topical analgesic and cooling agent that soothes the throat and airways). It is administered orally as a syrup.
