Drug intelligence / Profile preview
N-Ethylpentedrone (NEP) is a synthetic stimulant of the substituted cathinone class. It is the N-ethyl analog of pentedrone and has been sold online as a designer drug since the mid-2010s[1][5]. NEP acts primarily as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), increasing monoamine neurotransmitter activity—particularly dopamine and norepinephrine—with possible but minimal serotonin reuptake inhibition[5][8]. Its effects are short-lasting and include stimulation and euphoria; higher doses can cause severe adverse effects such as hallucinations, agitation, insomnia lasting up to 72 hours, seizures, cardiovascular complications including heart attack or stroke[7]. The compound is structurally related to other synthetic cathinones like pentedrone and N-Ethylhexedrone. It has no approved medical use.
