n-nitro-l-arginine

N-nitro-L-arginine is a synthetic amino acid derivative and a competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), the enzyme responsible for the production of nitric oxide (NO) from L‑arginine. By inhibiting NOS, N-nitro-L‑arginine reduces NO synthesis, leading to decreased vasodilation and blood flow. It has been widely used in experimental research to study the physiological roles of NO, including its effects on vascular tone, neurotransmission, and immune response. In preclinical models, it has demonstrated potential antitumor and antiangiogenic activities by selectively reducing blood flow to tumor cells[1][3][7]. However, poor solubility and stability have limited its development as an injectable drug for human use[7].
