Overview

N-omega-propyl-L-arginine is a synthetic amino acid derivative that functions as a potent, competitive, and highly selective inhibitor of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). It exhibits significantly lower inhibitory activity against endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). Primarily used as a research tool, it has been investigated in animal models for its effects on nNOS-dependent physiological and pathological processes, including its ability to block phencyclidine-induced behavioral changes and its hypotensive properties. It is explicitly stated as being for research use only and is not intended for therapeutic or diagnostic use in humans or animals.
