Overview
N-propylnoraporphine is an aporphine derivative and a dopamine agonist. It was investigated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease to mitigate the drawbacks of prolonged levodopa treatment, such as involuntary movements and the "on-off" phenomenon. Clinical studies showed that slowly increasing doses induced significant improvement in patients with Parkinson's disease. The drug was administered orally and was noted to cause transitory mental aberrations in some patients and release growth hormone. Its nephrotoxic dose was found to be higher than its therapeutic dose.
