Overview

N6-R-phenylisopropyladenosine (R-PIA) is a selective adenosine receptor agonist, primarily acting on adenosine A1 receptors, widely used in neuropharmacological research. It is known for inducing effects such as hypoactivity, hypothermia, muscle relaxation, and antinociception in animal models. R-PIA can also stimulate feeding behavior in rats at times typically associated with low food intake, via a mechanism that is independent of canonical adenosine A1 or A2 receptor pathways[3]. It is used extensively as a pharmacological tool to study adenosine receptor-mediated mechanisms.
