Overview

This is a neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimen consisting of nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel) followed by a dose-intensive combination of epirubicin and cyclophosphamide (EC). It is specifically being evaluated by Fudan University for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Nab-paclitaxel is a microtubule inhibitor that stabilizes tubulin, preventing the depolymerization necessary for cell division. Epirubicin is an anthracycline that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to DNA strand breaks. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that forms cross-links with DNA, interfering with replication and transcription. The regimen is designed to improve pathological complete response (pCR) rates in patients with early-stage or locally advanced TNBC by sequencing a taxane with an anthracycline-based combination.
