Drug intelligence / Profile preview
nab-paclitaxel + ipilimumab is a combination therapy evaluated for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. It consists of Abraxane (nab-paclitaxel), a nanoparticle albumin-bound formulation of the taxane paclitaxel, and Yervoy (ipilimumab), a recombinant human monoclonal antibody. Nab-paclitaxel functions as a cytotoxic chemotherapy agent by stabilizing microtubules and inhibiting cell division, while ipilimumab acts as an immune checkpoint inhibitor by targeting CTLA-4 to enhance T-cell activation and proliferation. This specific combination was investigated in a Phase II clinical trial (NCT01827111) led by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to assess safety and efficacy in patients with advanced or unresectable cutaneous or mucosal melanoma.
