Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Naftidrofuryl Benta is an approved generic formulation of naftidrofuryl (also known as nafronyl), developed and manufactured by Benta Lyon. It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of intermittent claudication in patients with stage II chronic obstructive peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Naftidrofuryl acts as a selective antagonist of serotonin 5-HT2 receptors (specifically 5-HT2A, 5-HT2B, and 5-HT2C), thereby inhibiting serotonin-induced vasoconstriction, platelet aggregation, and vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. Additionally, it enhances cellular aerobic metabolism by improving glucose and oxygen utilization, which helps maintain ATP levels in ischemic tissues.
