Drug intelligence / Profile preview
nailKALM Fungal Nail Treatment is a topical, naturally-derived antifungal lotion developed for the treatment of onychomycosis (fungal nail infections) and tinea pedis (athlete's foot). The active ingredient in nailKALM is AMYCOT, a patented, non-toxic extract derived from the microalgae *Arthrospira maxima* (Spirulina). AMYCOT exerts its fungicidal effect through a putative enzymatic action that targets and destroys chitin and chitosan polymers within the fungal cell wall, leading to cell wall collapse and fungal cell death. Additionally, nailKALM exhibits anti-inflammatory properties and stimulates keratinocyte growth to promote skin and nail regeneration. Originally developed by Biovite Australia, the asset was acquired by Xerion Limited in 2015 and is listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) as an over-the-counter (OTC) treatment.
