Overview

NAL1872 is a liposomal formulation of the anthracycline chemotherapy agent doxorubicin, currently in preclinical development by NAL Pharmaceutical Group. As a liposomal injection, it is designed to optimize the pharmacokinetic profile of doxorubicin, potentially enhancing tumor delivery while reducing systemic toxicities, such as cardiotoxicity, that are commonly associated with conventional doxorubicin formulations. The active ingredient, doxorubicin, acts by intercalating between DNA base pairs and inhibiting the enzyme topoisomerase II, which prevents DNA ligation and leads to the induction of apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. NAL1872 is being investigated for applications in oncology and supportive oncology.
