Nalmefene long-acting injectable (AP007) is a specialized long-acting injectable formulation of nalmefene developed for the treatment of opioid use disorder. Nalmefene is an opioid receptor modulator—a selective antagonist at the mu (μ) and delta (δ) opioid receptors, and a partial agonist at the kappa (κ) receptor. The AP007 code specifically refers to the long-acting injectable form designed to provide prolonged antagonism for relapse prevention. Nalmefene blocks the effects of opioids through competitive inhibition at opioid receptors, blunting euphoria, and reducing opioid cravings. AP007 is being investigated by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) for the treatment of opioid use disorder[9].
