Overview
Namisol is an oral tablet formulation of purified delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) developed by Echo Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to provide a more predictable pharmacokinetic profile and higher bioavailability than other THC formulations by utilizing a proprietary drug delivery technology. The drug acts as an agonist at cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), which are key components of the endocannabinoid system involved in pain modulation and nociceptive processing. Radboud University Medical Center has evaluated Namisol in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of persistent abdominal pain in patients with chronic pancreatitis. The study utilized objective measures such as quantitative sensory testing (QST) and encephalography (EEG) to assess the drug's safety, tolerability, and analgesic efficacy.
