NAN-101 (also known as AB-1002) is an investigational adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy developed for the treatment of heart failure, specifically targeting patients with non-ischemic New York Heart Association (NYHA) Class III heart failure. The therapy is designed to deliver a gene encoding protein phosphatase inhibitor 1 (I-1c), which inhibits protein phosphatase 1 (PP1), a key enzyme implicated in the pathogenesis of heart failure. By increasing I-1c expression in cardiac tissue, NAN-101 aims to enhance cardiac contractility and improve overall heart function. The drug is administered as a single intracoronary infusion directly into the coronary arteries supplying the heart. Clinical trials have shown preliminary evidence of improved left ventricular ejection fraction and functional status in treated patients[1][3][5][9].
