Nano-arthrocen (also known as ROCEN or NANOCEN) is a topical nanoliposomal formulation of avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) developed by Pharmin USA. ASU is a natural extract composed of phytosterols, tocopherols, and other bioactive lipids in a 1:2 ratio of avocado to soybean oil. By encapsulating ASU in liposome-based nanocarriers (LBNs), Nano-arthrocen achieves enhanced skin penetration, sustained release, and localized tissue accumulation. It exerts anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and tissue-regenerative effects by downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-8, IL-17, and IL-23), inhibiting NF-kappaB translocation, and suppressing COX-2 and iNOS expression, while simultaneously stimulating the production of anabolic factors like transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) and collagen. Nano-arthrocen is being developed under the brand names Nanocen (a 2% gel/cream for musculoskeletal pain and joint conditions like osteoarthritis) and Rocen (a 2% gel/cream for skin remodeling in cutaneous wounds, burns, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis).
