Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nano-candesartan refers to a nanoparticle-based formulation of the antihypertensive drug candesartan. Candesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle and adrenal glands, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. The nanoformulation aims to improve the solubility, bioavailability, and sustained release profile of candesartan compared to conventional oral tablets. Nanoparticle delivery systems for candesartan have been developed using various carriers such as PLGA (poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)), lipid nanoparticles, or self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS). These formulations are being investigated for enhanced antihypertensive efficacy and potential use in conditions like diabetes-associated stroke due to improved pharmacokinetics and tissue targeting[6][7][8][9].
