Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nano-carbon iron suspension injection (CNSI-Fe) is an innovative, intratumorally administered nanomedicine developed by Sichuan Enray Pharmaceutical Sciences (Sichuan Yingrui Pharmaceutical Technology), a subsidiary of Chongqing Lummy Pharmaceutical. The formulation consists of a carbon nanoparticle carrier loaded with divalent iron (Fe2+) ions as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. Upon injection into the tumor, the Fe2+ payload is internalized by cancer cells and reacts with intracellular hydrogen peroxide via the Fenton reaction, generating highly reactive hydroxyl radicals and lipid reactive oxygen species (Lipid-ROS) that trigger ferroptosis. Additionally, the carbon nanoparticle carrier provides photothermal and photochemical antitumor effects under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation and helps alleviate immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment. CNSI-Fe is currently in Phase II clinical development in China and the US for the treatment of advanced solid tumors, including soft tissue sarcoma and head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma, in combination with radiotherapy.
