Nano carbonate apatite (n-CAP) is a synthetic biomaterial, a modified form of hydroxyapatite, which constitutes the primary inorganic component of dentine and bone. Its crystalline structure incorporates carbonate ions, differentiating it from pure hydroxyapatite. The 'nano' designation refers to its nanometer-scale particle size, which imparts enhanced surface energy, biocompatibility, and superior adhesion to dental surfaces. In dental applications, n-CAP is employed in toothpastes to alleviate dentine hypersensitivity by physically occluding exposed dentinal tubules and actively promoting the remineralization of compromised dentine and enamel.
