Overview

Nano platelet-derived vesicle gel is a biomaterial composed of nanoscale extracellular vesicles (EVs) or exosomes derived from platelets, embedded within a hydrogel matrix. These nanoscale vesicles are rich in bioactive molecules such as proteins, genetic material (RNA), and signaling factors that play key roles in cell communication, tissue repair, coagulation, and immune modulation. The hydrogel serves as a delivery platform to enhance the local retention and sustained release of these therapeutic nanovesicles at the target site. Mechanistically, the nano platelet-derived vesicles promote tissue regeneration by delivering growth factors and regulatory molecules directly to damaged tissues. They can modulate inflammation, stimulate angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), inhibit apoptosis (cell death), and support cellular proliferation—making them promising for wound healing and regenerative medicine applications[2][6][7]. The hydrogel formulation further improves their therapeutic efficacy by increasing their residence time at the application site[6]. This technology is under active research for indications such as osteoarthritis (OA), cartilage repair, wound healing, and potentially other inflammatory or degenerative conditions[6][7]. It leverages both the natural targeting ability of platelet EVs to sites of injury/inflammation and the controlled-release properties of hydrogels.
